Fireflies And Crickets

Once upon a time
we kept lightning in a jar
violins inside
the drawer of a matchbox
and awoke to find both graves

Such foolish children
to think by punching air holes
with grass for carpet
that we could perpetuate
an orchestrated light show

Wondrous decades on
summer’s length the container
their distant broadcast
framed by an open window
in a repeat performance
