Celestial Harmony

On the damp strip between
beach and water
someone has drawn a sun
with an impish grin,
beaming wiggly rays that
seems to radiate
the day’s heat into the soles
of our bare feet.
There betwixt kindled twilight
and a rising tide
we stand, wondering which
will be erased first,
the true sun or the false one.
Never suspecting that
before oblivion declares a tie
to end the contest,
a glowing ribbon of orange
would unspool,
both overhead and underfoot,
to fuse the two into
a blend of celestial harmony.
